Talking environment has become fashionable. But Marimuthu Yoganathan is a genuine environment enthusiast. Not often do you meet someone who has dedicated over 25 years towards planting more than 120000 tree saplings single-handedly. This, by trekking the expanse of a state as large as Tamil Nadu; by visiting almost 3002 schools and colleges, to raise environmental awareness. And, if this isn't special enough, consider how despite earning a modest bus conductor's salary, Yoganathan has consistently worked towards this larger cause.

Marimuthu Yoganathan, Bus conductor, Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation is a know eco-activist. Yoganathan has been awarded 'Unsung Hero' by film actor John Abraham and film maker Mike Pandey in a function held in Delhi. The recognition from US based Footwear Company Timberland was bestowed on Yoganathan for his outstanding work in planting 120,000 saplings across the city, besides creating awareness of protecting the environment among the students. This was among the 14 awards that Yoganathan has received so far for his pet project 'Uyir Vaza Oru Maram'. Under the initiative the students have been taught to plant one sapling on their birth day.

Tamilnadu Government has conferred on him the tiltle ' Sutru Suzal Seyal Veerar'[Eco- Warrior]. He was the recipient of the Eco Warrior Award conferred by the Indian Government last year. "My request to have the award sent to me by post was declined. I was concerned about the train fare, the days taken for my leave, and accommodation costs in New Delhi. But, I'm glad I received the award in person by none other than the Vice President of the country," .
